The Teaching Page has my schedule, LOR guidelines, and Usually Useful Pamphlets. One of them is the Further information is at our class-archive URL (I email this private URL directly to students).

In all of my courses, attendance is absolutely required (excepting illness and religious holidays). In the unfortunate event that you miss a class, you are responsible to get all Notes / Announcements / TheWholeNineYards from a classmate, or several. All my classes have a substantial class-participation grade.

Assignment for Add/Drop week

In order to determine what you need to review over the weekend, please use 80 minutes do to as many problems as you can from this self-test of prerequisite knowledge. Then use the internet and your calculus textbook to grade yourself. This will help you determine what you need to review.

We will use DiffyNotes extensively for class lectures. Our textbook (see below) will be used for reading assigments and as a problem-reservoir.

Near future: Pamphlet on N×N determinants (txt) gives examples, showing that the determinant of an NxN matrix is a degree-N homogeneous polynomial in N² many variables, with N-factorial many terms.
The document now has an example of the trick for quickly computing the Det() of a 3x3 matrix. It also computes the Wronkskian of a list of three functions. (The top of the document was written for an Algebra course, and has material we do not need.)
Future: The Laplace transform (pdf) has an example, a simplification of tapping on a bell. Also available is a small Table of Laplace transforms (pdf).
Future: The useful Euler-Mascheroni constant and Gamma (pdf). See also w:Gamma fnc and w:Euler's constant. A place where the Polor-coordinate Trick is used, is the normalizing constant of the w:Gaussian distribution.
For the curious: The Gamma fnc, and Volume of the n-ball (pdf).

End-of-semester DfyQ: Individual Optional Project (IOP)

...will be due, typed, stapled, slid completely under my office door (402 Little Hall, northeast corner, top floor) no later than [Time & Date].

The DfyQ Project must be carefully typed, but diagrams may be hand-drawn and scanned into the PDF.

The first page is to be the Problem Sheet, with Honor Code signed and blanks filled in.

For the typesetting, one possibility is the (free) mathematics-typesetting language LaTeX .

The guidelines on the Checklist

(pdf, 3pages) are written for a team take-home, but are nonetheless are helpful for scoring well on an individual take-home.

The enthusiastically received Cool Quiz T allowed scholars to exhibit their polynomial-target skills.

Headlines proclaimed Class-S (pdf) a A smash hit!, with its clean two-tone format, and nifty freebie (S1a) question.

For the polynomial-degree question, examples one and two.
Folks found themselves Hooked by the suspenseful Class-T (pdf), people hanging on to the edge of their seats, ready to spring into action EXACTly when the situation was critical; nothing could damp their enthusiasm!

The challenging IOP-V had one question asking how to show all solns to a particular DQ were infinitely-differentiable. The other questions concerned Laplace-xforms.

Spring 2018, DfyQ:

Look Ma! All 18 DfyQ quizzes 2018g (pdf).
The exhilarating Class-S appeared (on Wed., 07Feb2018), attracting praise for its challenging, yet eminently do-able problems, as well as its nifty typesetting.
With its Salty language, Class-T appeared (on Wed., 28Feb2018) out of the Briney Depths, to entertain the cognoscenti [Exactly what they were hoping for] as students effortlessly sprang through Harmonic motion with undamped enthusiasm.
The gentle Class-U surfaced Expialadociously! (on Wedn., 04Apr2018), but did not ask students to compute Exp(i·aladocious); which, anyway, equals Exp(−aladocous). [Why?]
Our IOP-V asked about the DQs for a multi-tank brine question, as well as a unit-triangular-pulse question from the textbook.

Our Final exam was Monday, 09Dec., from 5:30PM - 7:30, in our classroom.
The thought-provoking prerequisite mini-quiz Class-A (pdf) provoked prerequisite thoughts. [Given on Mon., Aug.26, allowing folks to self-evaluate.]
Acclaim and applause followed Class-B (pdf) with its clean two-tone format, and FOLDE similar to the pamphlet's. Eager bystanders thronged to post solutions for their colleagues to learn from.
Headlines across the country proclaimed Class-C (pdf) as a A smash hit!, with its Brilliant writing and Interestingly Convoluted story-line, despite some Salty language. The audience clamors for more, awaiting with breath bated, its triumphant sequel !
Though there were gasps of disappointment, as Class-D (pdf) had no essay question, nonetheless folks appreciated that it was exponentially easier than the previous exams.
